Shiloh Sophia's Wave Painting in Process

Artist as Observer Drawing by Shiloh Sophia

Materials List

Art Supplies:

  • Canvas - minimum 16x20, or larger if you like
  • Easel (you can also hang the canvas on your wall or paint on a table)
  • Paint brushes – student grade, inexpensive is fine. See if you can find any called hog hair rounds (not flats) they are usually really affordable and can be found at craft stores. Shiloh uses them a lot for ‘scrubbing’. You will want a medium size, one larger and one smaller for detail called a liner brush. A variety of sizes and angles are good – they should be suitable for acrylic or oil, not watercolor.
  • Jar for paint water
  • Paper towels (or soft cotton lint free rags or old t-shirts work too)
  • Spray bottle with small mist.
  • Paint palette or paper plate
  • Black sharpie
  • Journal or Paper & Pens
  • Camera or your phone to document your process
  • Glitter (not required)
  • Painting smock or clothes that you can get paint on. Acrylic paint does not come out of clothes.
  • Candle, Red Thread (optional)
  • Tea, wine, chocolate, roses!
  • **Computer with a strong internet connection

You can find these materials at a local arts and crafts store. Or search Amazon or www.blick.com

"Healing the healer! I have been the Wounded Healer, as Jung and Indigenous people describe it since I was 3 years old. Integrating my fragmented, splintered selves has been my life-long journey. It is ongoing. Art is an essential medicine for my healing of myself and of others. I am THRILLED to be offering "Riding the Wave" beside you and Lavender!! This will be so powerful, fun, and liberating!' ~ Anasuya Isaacs

Lavender Grace - Frame Drumming, Song, and Chant

Lavender Grace, a friend of Shiloh’s since childhood, offers her skills of intuitive drum song – ongoing tradition.

She facilitates a practice delving into circle, grounding, stretching, tone, chant, song, and frame drum. These ancient tools have been used for millennia as a portal to transcend our current state, dispel disease, and bring harmony and peace to our hearts and our community.

Medicine Painting is an intuitive journey that grants access to our internal guidance system - the inner healer. More often than not, we don't know what we know. With painting specifically, we do have a way to make what our subconscious or unconscious knows, visible. Imagination may be one of the most potent links to recovering from trauma and illness that we have available. Our hope is that our culture can begin to include this medicine painting as a valid pathway to healing, not as a fringe practice, or the domain of the gifted few, but as an integrative approach to self-healing.

You Will Find Me Where Soil Kisses Star: By Shiloh Sophia

Creativity flows from a living fountain of instinct; hence the unconscious is not merely conditioned by history but is the very source of the creative impulse. ~ Carl Gustav Jung
